My name is Zayne Grogan, and I am an aspiring 3D Environmental Artist. I have spent the better part of my life pursuing art and finding out what it personally means to me. With that in mind, there is nothing quite like losing yourself in a compelling and immersive world, the way time will just pass with you none the wiser. We can find these worlds in literature, shows and movies, but I think many would agree when I say that there is no medium of art just as effective for losing yourself within quite like video games. From the agency over your actions to the simple fact that you’re within the world and interacting with it, video games provide the best escape a person seeking one could possibly find. I’ve had many inspirations over the years from conceptual and character artist, Masahiro Ito’s work on the Silent Hill series, contemporary artist, Zdzisław Beksiński’s personal portfolio of nightmarish yet beautiful hellscapes, to the wonderfully realized worlds of Frank Herbert’s writing. One thing that transcends all these examples is that they are all incredibly immersive, and that is the precise goal of my work. If a viewer walks away with one thing, I can hope that they simply get lost for a moment within it, soaking in the details and drawing their own conclusions, if that happens at the end of the day, then I was successful.
Moving away from my more abstract goals, all my work is visualized entirely utilizing 3D software, like Autodesk Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine and Unity, and most of it consists of creating assets through modeling, unwrapping, texturing, lighting and rendering. Above all else, my dream is to find myself in the league with other artists like me. There’s nothing I love more than collaborating with other creators and realizing a shared vision. All my work is visualized entirely utilizing 3D software, like Autodesk Maya, Blender, Unreal Engine and Unity, and most of it consists of creating assets through modeling, unwrapping, texturing, lighting and rendering. If I’m contributing to the development of a game as an environmental artist, then I know that I’m in the right place.
